Tell us about yourself!

Tell us about your design journey. How did you get started and how did you get here?

My design journey was very organic. After seeing my home in Hancock Park, one of my good friends asked for help designing her home. It was during this project that I came to the pleasant realization that interior design could be an actual career!

When you were first getting started, what were some of the biggest hurdles you had to overcome?

The business side of design was a bit of a hurdle. It’s a learning curve understanding how to run a business. When you’re working with only your friends, it may still feel like a simple relationship, but when people you might not know well are hiring you and putting their faith in you, you have to turn it into a real business. There’s a lot of lessons, challenges, and new processes that one has to face head-on.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to get started in interior design, but doesn’t know where to begin?

If you have a friend in need of help designing their own space or home, that would be a good place to start. It’s often said it can be dangerous to work with friends, but in this instance, if someone you trust can give you constructive criticism or positive reinforcement – that would be really helpful. Be aware that interior design is fantastic, but it is a business that takes passion, concentration, heart, and soul. Be prepared to give it your everything. People’s homes are often one of the things they care about most, so you have to respect that and treat it with a lot of importance.

How would you describe your design ethos?

Eclectic. I approach every project with the goal of creating “livable luxe.”

How do you create interiors that are both timeless and unique?

This comes from the eclecticism. I make sure pieces, though from different periods and styles, fit harmoniously. They’re beautiful and different but still speak the same language within the room. You can create something truly timeless and unique by making sure it isn’t just one-note.

What motivates you and keeps your hustle going every day?

I love what I do. I think interior design is important because it brings joy, happiness, and comfort into the world, which is something we all need and respond to. When someone reaches out to me, that’s what they’re asking me to help them do – create a space that brings them joy. No matter the size of the room or home, I think that’s really important.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received, either personally or professionally?

Professionally: Understand that you’re in the service industry. Our goal is to make our clients happy in addition to creating beautiful designs. Design is a business, and our clients need to be embraced for what matters most to them.

Personally: The best personal advice for me came from watching the way my mom pursues what she loves and what’s important to her. She’s been singing since she was young, and I’ve been able to see her passion and drive in action. Watching her encourages me to pursue what I love too.

What’s next for Brigette Romanek?

I hope to keep doing what I love and to continue with clients who are as passionate and interested as I am. I hope to create new furniture pieces as well. In fact, I’m working on a rug collection right now! Most importantly, I hope to continue to design – bringing happiness, comfort, and that liveable lux to everything I create.
