Stock your Shelves
Has your kitchen “junk drawer” gotten out of hand? We know ours often does! Opt for shallow baskets and trays when arranging silverware or kitchen utensils for an organization system that’s easy to maintain. Looking to maximize on shelf space? Utilize bins or baskets for table linens and display large bowls to hold fresh fruit.
Once you’ve decided on the vessels that make the most sense for your space, consider how to arrange your shelves and drawers best. Place most commonly used items, like your favorite cookbooks and everyday water glasses, towards the lower-end of your shelves. Place your occasion wear, like champagne flutes and table linens, higher up on your shelves.
Dive into the Decorative Details
Now that you’ve started to organize your space according to how it’ll be used, let’s dive into the details that’ll help take your pantry from plain to pretty.
For each shelf, try creating a center. Add some height by selecting a large decorative object — this is where we like to add a woven basket, display some artwork, or prop up our favorite cookbook. We love adding the tallest either item in the center or on either side of the shelf, alternating this pattern as we move down the unit.
Now that you have the basic structure for your styling laid out, your focus should be on adding those smaller decorative pieces and finishing touches that bring it all together. Some of our favorite additions at this stage include functional items that are just too pretty to put away — think spice jars, measuring spoons, or a mortar and pestle.
Decorating your pantry, whether it be drawers, shelves, or a combination of both, is a balance of functional and decorative. No space is thoughtfully designed without considering how both of these come into play. We’ve included some of our favorite hosting essentials and organization necessities below.
