Client What’s The Story Spanish Glory

Written by Amber Lewis
Photographed by Tessa Neustadt

Man oh man, where do I even begin with this project?? It feels like an eternity ago when we first started on this home and somehow, two years later we’re finally doing the full reveal. This home was a truly massive undertaking and one that I am so in love with. We took this one down to the studs, but kept the original Spanish-California feel and vibe. You’ll see what I mean by the ‘Before’ pictures below, but we had gave this home a maaaajor fresher and brighter look, among a million other things!

This project just went to show how important a GOOD contractor is. We had the pleasure of working with Philip Posen from Martin Construction and all I can say is thank GOD we did. Every single detail of this home, from the arches to the plaster vent design was built to perfection and I couldn’t be happier with how the entire home turned out.

Without further ado….. welcome to Client What’s The Story Spanish Glory!!!!

living room

This room gives me alllll the feels!! It’s moody, it’s cozy, it’s interesting… and it’s become one of my favorite living rooms to exist. In my humble opinion, the arched ceilings with wood beams made this room extra special. This room could have easily been a big white box, but where’s the fun in that?! The built-in arched shelves mimic the arched ceilings which keeps the eye moving. I anchored the room with a few darker pieces like two Riviera Sofas in a custom moss-y fabric, the gorg Joshua Coffee Table and vintage leather chairs, and added in some texture with the handwoven Collins Bench. Per usual, allllll the things are part of our Made by Shoppe furniture line at Shoppe!

kitchen, pantry, breakfast nook

I just love every single thing about this kitchen area — from the Lacanche range to the backsplash to the custom kitchen island to the banquette to the pantry. We made sure this room got alllll the natural light and open shelving to keep this room bright and airy. I chose a dark paint color for the cabinets in the kitchen and carried the same cabinet paint color into the pantry to create contrast in this brighter part of the home. You know I’m all about the arches, so we added those in the walkway from the pantry to the kitchen and of course, the pantry cabinets itself. The breakfast nook is all about the banquette (you know I can’t resist!!!), Alta Dining Chairs and the brand new Napoli Dining Table from Shoppe.

Family Room

If you’re anything like me, you would pay attention to every single detail of a room. I’m talkin’ about moving the fringe on a pillow a smidge to the left or moving a book’s placement on the coffee table an eighth of a centimeter to the right. I talk about how important the details are a lot, but it’s kind of my shtick! The built-in shelves were a must, the plaster vent design are like a subtle piece of art, and the shape of the fireplace with back tile was all part of my grand scheme here. We anchored this room with a big, comfy Carpenter Sectional from Shoppe and mixed in some gorg vintage pieces I scoured far and wide for. Remember people, it’s all about the mix of vintage and new….and the details!

Speaking of mixing vintage and new, here’s another example of that! This is an Oval X-Base Dining Table from Shoppe, paired with some stand-in chairs we had to pull in at the last minute, but I must say they look real pretty. Add in some vintage art and a vintage cabinet and voila!

master suite

I think I’ve said this about every room in the house already, but this master suite might be one of my faves of all time. The sitting room is as warm and cozy as it gets, with the most gorgeous arched reclaimed pine doors with a light umber stain that leads down a hallway to the bedroom. We mixed and matched all the patterns from the window coverings to pillows to throws with warm colors and quite frankly, I’m ready to jump right on into bed here. Not to mention, we added a built-in arched shelf (see a theme here???) and a vintage chaise lounge for chillin’.

kids room and playroom

This room makes me want to be five years old again. Once again, we incorporated all the patterns — from the window coverings, lamp shades, pillows to bedding — because that’s the Amber Interiors way! I love all the different textures and how we ended up pulling in a really cool pink throughout the bedroom and bathroom. It wasn’t overpowering, but we got the point across. Speaking of this bathroom…the tile work is bananas and I am o-b-s-e-s-s-e-d with how it turned out. Like I said, I’d like to be five years and live in this room, please!!

powder rooms and laundry room

I’ve talked a little bit about the tilework of this house, but it is seriously my obsession. Picking tiles is a hard decision… there are literally a million and one options out there and I am a sucker for pretty much all of ‘em. (In fact, I dedicated an entire section to my book coming out next fall about tiles… so stay tuned for that!!) In this house, the powder rooms and laundry room really got the tile love and man, I am so happy with how it all turned out.

entryway

I will end with this glorious entryway that truly makes me beyond happy to my core. The curved staircase with tile detail, custom iron stair railing and terra cotta tile… it’s all a match made in heaven. One of the biggest statements of this room was the ceiling, which we restored from all its glory and stained. Your eye goes to the ceiling almost instantly upon walking into the home, because it’s really something to look at. Last but not least, let’s not forget about this front door which we stained to an espresso-y finish that I just l-o-v-e.

Wall Paint: Dunn Edwards – White Heat

Alrighty then folks, I hope you enjoyed this one!!! It’s a glorious Spanish-style home that I will be posting about on Instagram for the next 5 years and I hope you never get sick of it. Xoxox Amber
