1. Find your Foundation
When choosing a rug for your bedroom, opt for a cozy texture, grounding color palette, and neutral pattern that will compliment your bedding without overwhelming the space.
Tip: Place your rug 8-10 inches past the head of the bed and let a decent amount run past the foot of the bed for optimal placement.
2. Bring in the Furniture
Choose high-quality furniture that will anchor the aesthetic of the room. Try pairing an upholstered bed frame with a sturdy wooden nightstand. We love how the soft lines of the Amber Bed compliment the scalloped details of the Vera Nightstand, while the juxtaposing texture of each piece creates visual interest.
3. Choose your Bedding Base
Now that you’ve laid the foundation of your space with a rug and furniture pieces, it’s time to establish the color story with a quilt. Use your base layer as a guide when layering on other colors and patterns. In this room, we opted for a patterned quilt featuring a neutrally colored pattern atop a solid base.
4. Layer, layer, layer!
We suggest layering the foot of the bed with blankets, duvets, and quilts of various patterns and textures. We include 2-3 layers at the foot of the bed, with the bottom layer being the thinnest. Add a patterned option in a color complimentary to the main quilt, a fluffy duvet to add volume, and a cozy throw to finish the look.
5. Pick your Pillows
Now it’s time to add the finishing touches with pretty pillows. We love choosing 2-3 busier pillows that compliment what you’ve already layered into the room, and then 1-2 smaller, more simple pillows for dimension. Try pairing plaids with muted florals and stripes with block printed patterns.
