48 Hours In: Los Olivos

We’re no stranger to a little escape here at ASO, and sometimes we only have a weekend to do it. Introducing a new series where we share All Sorts Of things to do, places to see, food to eat, at some of our favorite destinations, in 48 hours.

Which brings us to this little slice of heaven, Los Olivos – a perfect spot for a bit of R&R. Located in the Santa Ynez Valley, Los Olivos has that small town charm paired with beautiful scenery, and some top notch culinary experiences – what’s not to love!

While there are ample places to stay, top of our list is The Inn At Mattei’s Tavern. A historic landmark, with the Tavern dating back to 1886, the property exudes rustic charm, combined with a luxury experience. We love spending time around their property, discovering new nooks, enjoying their restaurants, and taking in the ambiance in their cozy spaces, with vintage-inspired pieces and lots of texture (which we love). They have a calendar full of events and experiences annnnnd a cute lil’ spa called The Cottage, which could be a weekend in itself.

While it’s not technically Los Olivos, in terms of food, we had to try the Michelin star, French-inspired bistro Bell’s, just down the road in Los Alamos. Trust us, their dinner prix fixe is the way to go. After dinner we suggest curling up by the fireplace back at The Bar for a nightcap, before spending the night in one of their beautifully restored cottages or guest house. *Booking tip – Bell’s reservations open the 1st of the previous month

In the morning we suggest a quick bite at Felix Feed & Coffee, then (weather pending) hang by the pool or check out some tasting rooms in town – wine and/or olive oil depending on your mood. Or if you have a bit more time, you can head to one of the many wineries nearby for a more immersive experience.

For lunch, we highly recommend Bar La Cote, self-described as a “stylish seafood tavern” – so naturally this made our list. A sister restaurant to Bell’s, with a lovely lil’ wine list and a curated list of seafood specialities, we can’t wait to go back and try the Chef’s Tasting Menu for dinner.

 

Delish food, great wine, beautiful scenery…like we said, perfect for some R&R. On the way out you can grab a coffee at local cafe Lefty’s and a sandwich at Panino & hit the road back to LA.
