a conversation with Laguna Cyprien…
1

Let’s start from the beginning! Tell us a little about your journey that led you to where you are now.

In 2019 we started Laguna Cyprien to impact the hospitality industry and personal care rituals. We are good friends who became travel partners, sharing routines and appreciation of simple design. We love surrounding ourselves with nature, are keen on aromas, and complement each other’s personalities. We asked ourselves — What can we do to evoke all of these shared traits that we know a lot of people also appreciate? Laguna Cyprien is the answer.

2

How would you describe the values behind Laguna Cyprien?

We believe in the simple things, that less is more, and that going back to the basics is the best option. That’s why most of our products are made with biodegradable and natural ingredients. We keep a close eye on our waste, and how our daily practices impact nature. We also believe in community and prioritize working with Mexican laboratories, studios, and local talent.

3

How have your passions and interests changed over the development of your brand?

By making personal care products, we’ve realized how important the details are — Not only as a business, but in everyday activities. Daily rituals, such as lighting a candle by Laguna Cyprien or taking a bath, allow us to be more present and aware of ourselves and our spaces. Also, we’ve grown fonder of smells and how they affect our moods and memories. Plus, interior design is also a world that we love exploring.

4

What would you consider to be the foundational pillars of self-care?

Going back to the basics! The simple things matter the most. We recommend that everyone develop a daily routine with quality products, commit to living in the present moment, enjoy moments of connection, and take the time to learn what matters the most to you. This is all the key to true self care!

5

Do you have any daily self-care rituals that help keep you grounded?

María: Taking care of my body, physically and mentally. I enjoy cooking with organic and local ingredients, and exercising. I also take time to pause by reading, listening to music, or spending time with my friends.

Katarina: I enjoy taking time off of my phone, going for a walk, or staying inside to create a cozy atmosphere. My favorite way to do this is by lighting a Laguna Cyprien candle or burning Palo Santo.

6

Do you find yourself practicing different self-care rituals during the winter? How can we slow down and take a moment for self-care during the coldest and busiest months of the year?

Yes! During the winter, our bodies have different needs. We must listen to, and be aware of, what our body is asking us. Making ourselves cozy with tea, lighting candles, and hydrating our skin are all important things to practice. Even though it sounds hard, letting go of the anxiety that comes with the season is vital. For example — Try not to let yourself give into overconsumption and let go of the obligation you may feel to attend every single event you’re invited to.

7

What would you say to someone who is looking to revamp their self-care routine, but doesn’t know where to begin? Which products are your everyday go-to’s?

It may sound repetitive, but get back to the basics! It’s easy to get tangled up in trends and fill our self-care with tons of stuff we don’t need. After analyzing what we really need, like hydrating and cleansing the skin, we can add in other things we enjoy, like our favorite aromas. We also recommend choosing basic products that you can refill, like hand and body soap, and shampoo and conditioner. Our everyday go-to’s are Laguna Cyprien’s Mineral Sunscreen, Hydrating Oil, and Body Lotion.

8

What’s next for Laguna Cyprien? How do you hope to see the impact of your work take form?

We strive to innovate and improve our products in terms of sustainability, while also expanding our product collection to include additional self-care essentials. The hospitality industry is a big part of our focus and we love contributing to the experiences in hotels. So, with the acquired expertise, we wish to open our own hotel based on our values and philosophy.
